Pendalungan's Animism
In several Tapal Kuda areas, the Pendalungan tribe is the majority in the area. As an illustration, in the Ambulu & Wuluhan areas. In the middle of the horseshoe area, there are the famous Ijen mountains, with the highest peak, Mount Raung.
Several rivers, such as Kalisat & Selanting, also cross this area. Horseshoe Plantation is managed by national companies such as PTP Nusantara, Tarutama Nusantara & also regional companies such as PDP. The Pendalungan tribe who inhabit this area is a sub-ethnicity of the Madurese tribe which was born as a result of mixing with the Javanese tribe.
In Indonesia, the art of dance has existed since prehistoric times, even up to the struggle. During the Hindu kingdom, the art of dance received a lot of influence from Indian culture. The art in the Jember district, which includes Tapal Kuda, is rare outside the Jember area, namely the art of can macanan kadduk. This art is passed down from generation to generation by ancestors. This belief is based on animism, dynamism & manimism. Based on the previous explanation regarding traditional arts inherited from ancestors, can macanan kadduk can be interpreted as an art performance involving a tiger made from a jute sack.
According to Joko Supriatno, this can macanan kadduk was used during the Japanese colonial era. By transforming a stuffed tiger into a scarecrow, farmers produce new artistic ideas after being inspired by the Leog Ponorogo tradition of expressing gratitude for the results of alms from the earth. The modern culture of Can Macanan Kaduk has existed since 1974, and it is grouped by the Eastern Star Community.
Their mission is to maintain commitment, encourage creativity & build a community centered at Warung Kembang, Pancakarya Village, Ajung District. However, in 2013, this art suddenly became a hot topic of conversation among the local community. Regarding the number of responses/invitations to appear, the Pandhalungan Cultural House was established, so that we can find out the truth about the reduced number of responses until 2014.
