Ogan's Animism

Based on the genealogy & lore of the Ogan clan, they are descendants of Raden Cili Mangkusa / R Kasegeni, the son of the ruler of Bangkahulu, namely Ratu Agung. This clan is spread from the villages of Ulak Pandan - Pandan Dulang. This district is centered in Baturaja City. Meanwhile, other clans come from outside the customary area, for example, Lubuk Rukam village whose ancestors came from Demak, Saung Naga Peninjauan village from Rambang Niru, Kelampadu & Lubuk Batang from Palembang. However, they share the same traditions, the eldest child who is entrusted with carrying out the debt has duties & responsibilities, including looking after the family property and heirlooms, caring for parents & being a shelter for parents when they are old, looking after the graves of their ancestors, living in village & not allowed to move house, maintain family honor, maintain and continue the zuriyat of descendants & obey and adhere to the traditions of this tribe.

Mesuji's Animism

Palembang's Animism

Komering's Animism

The Kumoring / Komering tribe is one of the indigenous tribes of South Sumatra who live along the Komering River. Puyang Said Hamimum Hamim is a person of Arab descent who developed & spread Islam on this river. He has 3 siblings including, Syech Mangku Bumi, Sultan Raja Nyawa, and Putri Ratu Ruban. Apart from that, he had a wife named Rubiah Bulan Binti Gemulung Sidowaras, a woman who initially had leprosy. After a few months, Rubiah Bulan became pregnant & not long after that, Puyang's wife Rubiah Bulan gave birth to a son, she named her child Siak Saidi bin Said Hamimum Hamim. When Mr. Siak Saidi grew up, he said goodbye to his mother and father to go to Palembang. After getting to know each other for some time, Mr. Siak Saidi & Nai Mas Rangga Cili agreed to get married and finally had a son, from their marriage the child was named Tuan Bosar. The Historical & Cultural Research Center in 1976/1977, started an activity called a research project and recording regional culture. At the start of this project activity, general research & recording activities were carried out regarding regional customs throughout Indonesia. This tribe is affiliated with the first, the Dempo Kingdom with its King whose title is Raja Dempu Awang, located in the current Pagaralam area. The Pesemah tribe generally lives around the area of ​​the active volcano, Mount Dempo. The name, namely be / pe, means will & semah comes from the name of a fish which has a big meaning. The source of oral tradition comes from the statement of Ahad, juraytue puyang Kedung Gunung Samat in Rempasay, who stated that before the arrival of Atung Bungsu, several ethnic groups had arrived in waves, such as Jeme Kamkam, Nik, Nuk, Ducung, Aking, Rebakau, Sebakas, Rejang & Berige. Originally the place where they lived was called Talang Lindung Bunyian. At that time, the population concerned adhered to animist beliefs & some others were Buddhists. In Sekampung, Kholik Hamirullah was married to Rio Minak Usang Sekampung's son & appointed Rio with the title Ario Damar, based in a place called Desa Baru. His arrival was due to the religious living conditions of the community which were still influenced by the beliefs of their ancestors and the influence of Hindu-Buddhist teachings. Apart from the tribes previously discussed, in the province of South Sumatra, various other tribes still adhere to animism & dynamism and are still strong in their belief in ancestral spirits and the existence of supernatural beings in everyday life, one of which is the Mapur tribe. Therefore, our research discusses the identity of religious adherents who are often represented through their opinions & actions, because this occurs in the lives of local religious adherents which can be observed in several regions of Indonesia such as the Kaharingan belief in Kalimantan, the Kubu tribe in Jambi. The research locations are in 4 areas, namely Pangkalpinang, Paya Benua, Tempilang & Sungailiat. This research was to fulfill a thesis course in the Indonesian literature department, faculty of literature, State University of Malang. The focus of this research is the Lintang tribe who inhabited South Sumatra for 24 years where Sriwijaya was the center of world civilization in the past. In this case, what makes this article different is that it is the author's reference to strengthen the identity of the Lintang tribe from the references of Dutch writers such as Roskott who have a peaceful, accommodating, tolerant & compromising character and tend to show opposition in the form of voluntary surrender. The Lengkayap tribe originates from South Sumatra, Indonesia. Although the term Lengkayap is similar to the name of the Dayak tribe in Kalimantan, there is no connection at all, only a similarity in name.
