Rawas' Animism

Progress over time does not reduce the traditional elements that date back to the days of our ancestors. Then each of these structures develops into deep habits & is united in the belief in the ancestors they adhere to. Beliefs themselves are divided into 2, namely animism and dynamism.

Animism is a belief in spirits and spirits. People who believe in animism will usually make requests to the spirits they believe in. Even now, there are still many people who adhere to animist/dynamism beliefs.

Indonesian society has a variety of tribes, cultures, customs, and traditional values which are still strong and implemented today. The river that springs from Bukit Barisan & empties into the Bangka Strait is the Musi River, while the Ogan, Komering, Lematang, Kelingi, Lakitan, Rupit & Rawas are tributaries of the Musi River which are inhabited by the Rawas tribe. Generally, they live in groups in forest areas, communication with outsiders is very limited, they are familiar with shifting cultivation and gathering activities, and they have animist beliefs and dynamism related to their knowledge of the forest.

Therefore, according to the founder of STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau, their view of death is no different even from the beliefs of South Sumatran people in general. In the days of animism, they believed that people did not die. Only the spirit comes out and moves into nature.

Immortal spirits in the spirit world. Ancestral spirits often act as guardians of communities, sources of ethics & social harmony. The spirits of deceased ancestors also function as guardians of group identity.

However, the people of Sukarami Village still believe in sacred things. Keramat Karang Luluk is the grave of ancestors which is sacred and is thought to be able to fulfill the wishes of pilgrims. Sometimes large trees also become markers, such as the giant Sultan Sattar tree in Lubuk Tua.
