Rambang's Animism

Other tribes from South Sumatra include all tribes from South Sumatra such as the Rambang tribe. Its distribution covers several areas in Pagar Agung village & Pedamaran subdistrict. According to the 2013 population census, the population increased to 716,676 with a rapid population growth of 2% per year.

All residents recorded above are Indonesian citizens with a total of 523 families. In historical records, the village of Pagar Agung was founded in 1798, with the initial name Kandang Ambung. The reason this village was named Kandang Ambung was that at that time the village often received disturbances & attacks from outside areas, especially disturbances from daye and wild animals, so to anticipate these disturbances the people still believed in the power of creatures & objects that were considered magical / in other words, still animistic, until ideas/opinions emerge about how to fight the attack in question which is very disturbing comfort, especially at night when you are sleeping.

Finally, with the same understanding, they agreed that every night when they wanted to rest, the village would sleep in a cage with a barn. Even though this tribe is religious, in everyday life it is mixed with animist beliefs. One thing until now we still continue to adhere to the principles & teachings of our ancestors as the founders of the village.

The Bedusun alms tradition is carried out to reject balak, pray for the spirits of ancestors & give thanks for the blessings that have been obtained. The Bedusun alms tradition is basically not much different from the traditions that exist in Javanese society. Every year, giving alms is done by sacrificing chickens from 9 types of village chickens. If almsgiving has been held for 3 consecutive years, the sacrifice is added with a goat, then once every 5 years in a row the goat sacrifice is replaced with a buffalo & this tradition still continues to this day.

Based on ancestral stories, that this village is around 400 years old / 4 centuries old, this Bedusun alms tradition continues to be carried out until now, right up to the current traditional leader, because he previously had migrated & returned to this village, accounting for the implementation of this tradition 7 times. The process of implementing the Bedusun almsgiving tradition lasts for approximately 1 week, the community gathers to carry out the event & participate in heeding the customary rules/norms contained in this tradition. The people of this village have adhered to beliefs that have been influenced by the beliefs of their ancestors, namely animism & Buddhism, then finally the people now have Islamic beliefs.

To restore the paradigm of Islamic education which is based on true Islamic foundations, Ibn Taimiyah has a unique thought, first, he believes that education must be concentrated on awakening the creed of monotheism & cleansing people's lives from various mythologies, to guide society in carrying out the mission of Islam. Islamic Da'wah in the Malay Realm has brought changes in the lives of the Malay people where before Islam came, the Malay people strongly adhered to the teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism, animism, dynamism & so on. Islamic education is also defined as forming human beings who are pious and this is the same as the aim of national education in the National Education System Law No. 20 of 2003 which is to form Pancasila people who are devoted to God Almighty.

Because there is no religious obligation that states that a Muslim is obliged to study in a country where the majority of Muslims are, such as Mecca / Medina, and vice versa. Then when Japan surrendered to the allied forces, this administrative area changed to kawedanan, at that time the government changed to clan government. The final change occurred after independence with the government dismissing clan heads en masse & appointing new clan heads as a result of a direct election by the people in 1946.
