Pedamaran's Animism
Other tribes from South Sumatra include all tribes from South Sumatra such as the Pedamaran tribe. This tribe is affiliated with the first, the Dempo Kingdom with its King whose title is Raja Dempu Awang, located in the current Pagaralam area. Second, the Ipuh Kingdom with its King who had the title, Ranggo Laut, was located on the present Bukit Batu Tulung Selapan, which is now included in the OKI & Gunung Manumbing Regency on Bangka Island.
In the 6th century AD, these two regions were said to have been merged into one region with the Danau Kingdom because of the marriage between King Dempo, who had the title Rana Dempu / Dempu Awang & Raja Ipuh, who had the title Ronggo Laut, with the daughter of the Danau Kingdom mentioned above. One of his descendants was Ario Damar, who since childhood was raised by his uwak, his mother's older brother, a Bhirawatantra priest & with his extraordinary abilities, he succeeded in returning Palembang to the bosom of Majapahit. In Sekampung he was married to Rio Minak Usang Sekampung's daughter & was appointed Rio with the title Ario Damar, domiciled in a place called Sesa Baru.
At that time, the population concerned adhered to animist beliefs & some others were Buddhists. The similarity of language with the Meranjat area & several other areas is possible because they have the same puyang & indeed come from the same tribe. The move of Rio Damar is what caused pagan areas such as Talang Lindung Bunyian, Lebak Teluk Rasau, Lebak Air Hitam & Lebak Sangatuh to become Muslim villages.
