Nage's Animism

This is related to the closest language on the island of Flores & its surroundings including the Nage language which is part of the Central Flores language family, then with the Manggarai language. Until the mid-20th century, communal land ownership with the participation of the extended family was still maintained. In 1940, Officer Louis Fontijne conducted a Dutch colonial service study entitled Grondvoogden in Limado, Limado is included in the administrative area of Nagekeo district.

In 1983, anthropologist Gregory Forth renewed his interest in the tribe, revisiting the island while searching for a copy of Fontijne's complete study. Forth also hypothesized a possible connection between the local story of Ebu Gogo, a creature in Nage mythology & the discovery of homo floresiensis, a possible extinct hominid species, until interest in the tribe re-emerged.
