Noaulu

Biodiversity is very important for the sustainability of the Indonesian nation's life. The Rutaceae / citrus family used consists of lime and Chinese lemon, the Lamiaceae family consists of miana leaves and cat's whiskers, while the Myrtaceae family consists of guava and cloves. Most of the Noaulu tribe comes from North Maluku, precisely Halmahera Island.

It can be interpreted that Noahatan / Noaulu live in the Noa River's upper reaches. In the past, they still adhered to the custom of cutting off heads / headhunting like the Dayak people in Kalimantan. But since the 1970s they have not done it anymore after continuous socialization by the local government.

We have collected 2 of the traditions that are still preserved by the Noalu tribe on Seram Island, namely pahahari & pinamou. This ritual begins with fasting for 1 day, starting at 3 am and ending at 6 pm. The elder who provided the equipment then headed to the back door facing east to lead to the ritual site in the forest.

This ritual is in the form of exile from family & society because menstrual blood is considered bad for their customary environment, so they have to be exiled to posune for 11 days. The religion practiced by the Noaulu tribe is a religion passed down by their ancestors; they call it the Noaulu / Naurus religion. They believe that in every aspect of life, there is a spirit / upu that controls & surrounds their daily lives.

In addition, there is also rea upu, namely ancestors who have died but can still communicate with the living if needed. Nizham, who was met in Ambon on Friday night, suggested that the Malteng district government be proactive by paying attention to preserving this ancestral tradition from the threat of extinction.
