Anak Dalam's Animism


The original inhabitants of Jambi province include the Anak Dalam tribe. A small part is in the southern area of ​​Bukit 30 National Park. Indeed, since the ancestors of the Orang Rimba, they have been accustomed to agricultural activities & this can be seen in various taboos that are prohibited when agricultural activities take place.

Even though harvesting can only be done after the rubber reaches 9 years of age, the main thing is to prevent the widespread clearing & even selling of forest land by hamlet communities on a large scale, especially the strong flow of illegal logging. The majority of the Anak Dalam tribe adhere to animist beliefs in traditional religion. The three main concepts of causality, as demonstrated by the Anak Dalam tribe in the preoperational stage, include animism, artificialism & transductive reasoning.

The Anak Dalam tribe goes through an animism phase, namely a phase where they have an interest in inanimate objects & consider them alive. As a theory developed by psychologist Jean Piaget, tribes in the animist phase tend to think that all immovable/non-living objects in their environment have the same abilities as humans/living creatures, namely being able to behave, speak, and act. invite dialogue, attack, etc. Jean Piaget was a psychologist who came from Switzerland and has contributed greatly to the understanding of tribal cognitive development.

He was born in 1896 & was initially trained as a biologist and philosopher. Piaget also called the animist phase another term for the preoperational thinking stage in the Anak Dalam tribe. So, in this animist phase, this tribe is trying to interact with the surrounding environment, with objects.

When the Anak Dalam tribe is in their first 3 months of age, their exploration is related to their five senses and their environment. In one experiment, Hughes demonstrated that tribes as young as 4 years old were able to understand situations from multiple points of view, suggesting that they become less egocentric at an earlier age than Piaget believed. He found that few tribes demonstrated an understanding of conservation before age 5.

According to the Indonesian Doctors Association / IDAI, at the start of the Anak Dalam tribe, there will be a major cognitive transformation towards a more conceptual, abstract & also future-oriented way of thinking. As time goes by, as a result of increasingly developed & mature thinking abilities, this animistic phase will disappear by itself. Pesisir's Animism
