Mandar's Animism


In the 18th century, sea trade was prevalent. This maritime knowledge was inherited from the Austronesian era. The majority did not know God & traditional animism beliefs were still strong.

The Mandar tribe has three beliefs: animism, Islam, and a mixture of animism and Islam. Animism is not prohibited as long as it does not conflict with Islamic law. Even the mixture of these two beliefs produces rituals with prayers from the Quran.

The Lengkayap tribe originates from South Sumatra, Indonesia. Although the term Lengkayap is similar to the name of the Dayak tribe in Kalimantan, there is no connection at all, only a similarity in name. Meranjat's Animism

Other tribes from South Sumatra include all tribes from South Sumatra such as the Meranjat tribe. Based on sources obtained by the author from interviews with Pedamaran village officials. Originally the place where they lived was called Talang Lindung Bunyian. At that time, the population concerned adhered to animist beliefs & some others were Buddhists. In Sekampung, Kholik Hamirullah was married to Rio Minak Usang Sekampung's son & appointed Rio with the title Ario Damar, based in a place called Desa Baru. His arrival was due to the religious living conditions of the community which were still influenced by the beliefs of their ancestors and the influence of Hindu-Buddhist teachings. Melayu's Animism

Talang Mamak comes from the word talang, which means field & also mamak which means mother. In addition to Talang Mamak, this tribe has other names, such as the Anak Dalam & Langkah Lama tribes. Like the Sakai tribe, Talang Mamak is said to come from Pagaruyung who moved & lived in Indragiri. This is written in Old Malay, possibly the ancestor of the current Malay language & its variants. Animism believes every object has a soul that must be respected to not disturb humans. Animism is 1 belief that exists among people who still practice a simple life.
