Tolaki's Animism
Most of the population inhabiting the province of Southeast Sulawesi are local indigenous tribes, including the Tolaki tribe. The name of the Tolaki tribe comes from the word to = person / human, laki = male gender, so it means a human with high masculinity, is brave & upholds honor/self-esteem. Inside the cave are stored many artifacts, including human skulls, work tools such as hunting tools, objects of worship, jars, pottery, porcelain made by China, Thailand, VOC, Dutch East Indies, worship stones, there are several pictures/scenes such as animals, palms, hunting, canoes/boats, humans, statues, terracotta, etc.
According to the speakers of the King's genealogy, until now there are still remnants of the small Kingdom, both archaeological and ethnographic relics, for example, the ruins of the Wawolesea King's Palace in Toreo. Furthermore, Totongano Wonua moved the center of his Kingdom from Padangguni to Unaaha, because when Totongano Wonua made a trip in order to unite the surrounding countries. Totongano Wonua found a woman in Lalobalongga named Nanggalamaha.
According to 2 brothers Albert Cristian Kruyt & J Kruyt, and F Treferrs, the same thing happened in the Mekongga Kolaka Kingdom where Wekoila & Larumbalangi, which is told about 2 siblings, a woman and a man. So the older sister is Wekoila while Larumbalangi is the younger brother. Wekoila is a sibling of Larumbalangi with the title Sangia Aha.
The word Wekoila means beautiful girl, consisting of 2 words we are the first name of a female noble, koila means shiny. Then Wekoila / Watandiyate was married to the son of Toramalangi Ndotonganowonua named Ramandalangi who had the title Langgai Moriana. Lakidende then married Wemanipa, the daughter of Imbatosa in Ngapaaha.
In terms of arts and culture, the city of Kendari is not inferior to other regions. In this dance which lasts about 5-10 minutes, several female dancers carry bosara/bokor made of rattan, while 2 male dancers hold traditional weapons. Reconstruction efforts were encouraged, including through a seminar on exploring traditional Tolaki architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Haluoleo University, in March 2004.
The process of the entry of Islam in Indonesia in general & the Konawe Kingdom in particular, it did not cause conflict among the people even though the Indonesian people already had animist and dynamism beliefs. And continued by deepening the art of reading the Quran in Tinanggea. However, the Islamic religion brought by traders could not be accepted by the Konawe Kingdom community, because at that time the community still adhered to animism & dynamism.
The Tolaki animist belief believes in the existence of spirits that inhabit all objects, which are called sanggelo.
