Alifuru's Animism

Most of the population of Maluku are indigenous people of Maluku consisting of various ethnic groups such as the Alifuru tribe. However, the name Alifuru comes from Arabic, namely alef & uru which means people. In addition to the Alifuru tribe, there are several other names for the name Alifuru, namely Alfur, Alfros, Alfuress / Horaforas.

In the Dutch language Alfuren, the name Alifuru was renamed Nusa Indah but this was not used because it was better known as the Alifuru tribe. As called Indians in the United States, the various Alifuru tribes are not culturally homogeneous. The coastal Alifuru tribe was known to Chinese traders in the 7th century & the Ming dynasty era in the 14th to 16th centuries AD.

The Alifuru people maintained their headhunting habits until the 1940s. The Alifuru Council claims to represent the Alifuru people in the Indonesian government. The Alifuru mountain tribe lives by moving from place to place. The Alifuru tribe is usually seen by people on Seram Island on the Mount Binaiya climbing route.

Some of the Alifuru people still believe in spirits and ancestral spirits, which is the basis of religious celebrations that first appeared among primitive humans.
