Moskona's Animism

This could happen anywhere, and it was exactly what happened in Timor-Leste recently during their struggle for independence. Like the ancient human groups that settled in the interior of Seram, the Alune tribe traditionally subsisted on forest products. Meanwhile, the tifa (traditional drum), with its dynamic rhythms amidst distinctive cries, adds a distinctive touch to this dance, which originates from the Asmat region.

The Dani people of the Baliem Valley sometimes wore trousers but retained their koteka (penis koteka). Given the location and geography of Minyambouw village, its unique thermal conditions are evident. There are 13 mountains, the highest being Mount Umsini and Mount Mamofcu, at 2,950 and 2,985 meters respectively.

Meanwhile, the Hatam and Meyakh tribes, who live in the lowlands, call a 1,000-foot house "iymama," and the Sougb tribe, who inhabit the highlands of the Anggi region, call it "tu misen." Before Islam, our brothers and sisters in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi practiced animism. To ensure the continued existence of the ibeiya for the future, researchers are working to document the remarkable work of our ancestors through the vernacular architecture of the Arfak people.

Before the arrival of Protestantism, the Arfak people practiced animism. The ibeiya hearth features a special layer designed by the Arfak ancestors, passed down through generations. The GKI (Indonesian Christian Church) is located in the Yamboi area and the GPKAI (Indonesian Christian Church) is located in the Memti area.

The hauwa construction has existed since the time of the ancestors of the Demaisi village community. The Moskona are an indigenous people inhabiting parts of Bintuni Bay, West Papua province.

In the past, boys were required to guard the Honai from night to morning, while girls were allowed to sleep in groups. The region's latitude, which lies between 23.5° N and 23.5° S, close to the equator, contributes to its tropical climate. Lippsmeier stated that the first to conduct experiments on this subject were Houghton & Yahlou in 1923.

Mom Wiesebron's research was conducted by Mom & Wiesebron around 1936-1940 at the Technische Hoogeschool te Bandung. Since the 1950s, missionaries have campaigned for the use of shorts as a substitute for koteka. Through governors, starting with Frans Kaisiepo in 1964, anti-koteka campaigns have been launched.

Initial data, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and details, were sketched. The data was then redrawn using Autocad 2007 and Sketchup 8 software for clarity. Measurements were taken over 16 hours, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM WIT, over four consecutive days. The research took place in December.

Data collection for thermal comfort variables could not be conducted 24 hours a day because residents were reluctant to open their doors after dark. For two to three months, the wood is stretched out in the yard of the ibeiya construction site, stacked in a damp area. Meanwhile, between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, the fireplace is extinguished because residents are out in the gardens.

The Moskona people have been striving for years to preserve the ancestral land inherited from their ancestors, which has largely lost its primary resource, merbau wood. Furthermore, some houses serve as animist temples. This also enriches the knowledge of traditional Indonesian houses, wisely designed by our ancestors.

This division of land has evolved over generations, influenced by our ancestors. Buddhism and Hinduism then arrived from India. It's worth remembering that the process of Christianization in the interior took place during the 33-year authoritarian rule of Suharto.
