Imekko's Animism


Indonesia is an archipelago comprising 17,508 islands, dominated by sea waters, which cover 62% of Indonesia's land area, spanning 81,000 km. There are approximately 9,261 coastal villages with a population of 22%. Of the many sea and land settlements, one of them is the Maybrat, Imian, and Sawiat tribes in South Sorong and Maybrat regencies, Papua. The Imian Sawiat tribe lives in the Sawiat and Teminabuan districts, which have a humid tropical climate and are dominated by farmers, fishermen, and hunters.

According to local residents, this language is also spoken by the Birau tribe, who inhabit several villages north of Mate, including Sibae, Wadoi, Solta Baru, and Serkos. According to informants, in the past, their ancestors did not know the name Inanwatan. Before religion, the ancestors of the Inanwatan people believed in supernatural powers that controlled the natural world.

Another tribe is the Imekko. The Governor stated that starting next year, the local government will ensure free nutritious meals for all schoolchildren, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers in Imeko. They also believe in the spirits of deceased ancestors and the power that resides in rocks, trees, caves, rivers, and so on.

These beliefs are called animism and dynamism. Closing his speech, the Governor urged the community to remain in Christ's love and not be tempted to return to old practices such as shamanism and animist beliefs.

The Sakai people are a group of people who are isolated and still live traditionally and nomadically in an area on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, precisely west of Bengkalis Regency & west of Siak Regency. Meranjat's Animism

Other tribes from South Sumatra include all tribes from South Sumatra such as the Meranjat tribe. Based on sources obtained by the author from interviews with Pedamaran village officials.
