Mek's Animism


Meanwhile, the name Mek is a name given by Western researchers. The life of the Mek tribe was discussed in the Discovery Channel television series "Living with the Mek," which aired in 2008. The myths of the Mek and Yali tribes share a similarity: they believe their ancestors came from the east, thus the origin of the word "yali," meaning "from the direction of the rising sun."

These ancestors are called Yeli by the Yali people, and Yaleenye by the Eipo people, who are considered creators of the world.

The Sakai people are a group of people who are isolated and still live traditionally and nomadically in an area on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, precisely west of Bengkalis Regency & west of Siak Regency. The native population of Jambi province includes the Batin tribe. The Batin tribe has Malay elements in its culture & some have combined with Minangkabau culture, many live in Bungo, Merangin, Tebo, and Sarolangun districts. Around 72,000 Batin people are living in the interior of southern central Sumatra.
